Lorenzo Bertocchini is an extraordinary songsmith that hails from Varese (Italy), where he fronts a ‘folk’n’fun band’ called The Apple Pirates. With and without his band, he has performed across Europe and the USA, in all sorts of venues from intimate clubs to big festivals, sometimes sharing stages and bills with world renowned artists.
There is a bit of everything in his curriculum, from live interviews on US radio stations, to appearing on French national TV, to brief cinema flirtations... Cinema

Lorenzo has toured with Elliott Murphy, Dan Bern, Erin Sax Seymour, Bill Toms, Tom Breiding and Ruth Gerson; he has hung out with Dario Fo’, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Eric Andersen, Loudon Wainwright III, Dave Alvin, John Prine, Will T. Massey and Calvin Russell, only to mention a few; and he was invited to play at a benefit event, in New Jersey, alongside Pete Yorn, John Eddie, Jesse Malin, Willie Nile, Marah, Soozie Tyrell, Jeffrey Gaines and Joe Grushecky... That is where he had the pleasure and privilege to share the stage with Bruce Springsteen.

His live career started in 1990, when he put together a band called The Beer Bellies: a lot of fun, but not a long ride... Only a few months.
His second band was a guitar trio called The Wanted!: Eric Viala took care of the backing vocals and played acoustic guitar, plus some occasional bass; Daniel Damm was the electric guitar man; Lorenzo wrote the songs, sang and played acoustic guitar and harmonica. The trio got together at the beginning of 1991 and eventually split up at the end of the following year.

In December 1992, Lorenzo got in touch with the piano player Roberto Masciocchi, and started a new project called The Getaway. The name soon changed to Pirates, and then to Apple Pirates.
With a lot of hard work and true devotion to their roots-rock roots, the band started building itself the solid reputation it enjoys today in the Italian music scene.
These guys have played everywhere, never playing the same gig twice and always leaving a lasting impression to those who witness their live shows.

For those of you who don't already know, the band’s line up is: Floriano Botter (drums), Marco "Rallie" Negrelli (bass, backing vocals and keyboards), Roberto "Shock" Masciocchi (piano and organ), Dario Paini (saxophone), Alessandro Talamona (electric guitar, banjo and backing vocals), Luca Pasqua (electric guitar and backing vocals) and Lorenzo Bertocchini (vocals, acoustic guitar and harmonica).
Plus sometimes Alessandro "Griso" Grisostolo (pedal steel guitar).
Their discography contains an ironically titled debut album called “Greatest Hits”, the “Music Va” compilation features 2 of their songs, the “Everybody” EP and their latest release: “Uncertain, Texas” which has been described as a rare flower in Italy’s musical landscape.

As a solo artist, Lorenzo has released “Whatever Happens Next...”, “Live At The Sidewalk Café” (recorded in New York City, during one of his acoustic US tours) and “Hearts Of Stone” (a collection of Bruce Springsteen songs, some of which were previously unreleased).
Lorenzo also can be found on the “Musica Va 2” compilation (the second release containing songs from Varese musicians) and on 2 international compilations: “Lookin’ For A Hero” (the Elliott Murphy tribute-CD) and “Gotta Red Dawg” (a double CD containing 30 songs about dogs).

His studio collaborations include duets with Rosie Flores (soon to be released), Erin Sax Seymour, Ruth Gerson and, of course, Elliott Murphy, who says, speaking about him, “Lorenzo Bertocchini is like a son to me: so attentive and so rebellious”.

Elizabeth Lee has released “An Eclection”, a CD with 11 Lorenzo Bertocchini songs. One of them, “Being A Woman, Being A Man”, is an Elizabeth/Lorenzo co-write and duet.
